At funerals and memorial services, there is a trend to embrace joy over sadness. A celebration of the life reflecting the personality of the deceased. Perhaps you would like your funeral or memorial service to have a celebratory tone reflecting your uniqueness. Here are some interesting ideas for inspiration for a grand final event.

1. Song and Dance

The dancing pallbearers from Ghana are not just a great source for memes, but evidence that song and dance can help lift the mood at a funeral or service. There are however many alternative ways to incorporate song and dance into a service: you can opt to hire a musician, have a unique playlist reflecting your loved ones personality for the event, or ask your guests to share music that most reminds them of the lost loved one.

2. Dress Code

Formal dress clothes, in particular black, is very common at a formal traditional funeral. Perhaps something more casual, a splash of colour or even a fancy dress theme would match the personality of the departed.

3. Sharing Stories or Memory Board

Setting up a memory board with a collage of photographs, that guests can add to, creates a space for the sharing of stories about the deceased. These stories may be short or long, serious or funny, profound or trivial. Each story can add meaning and be a wonderful way for guests to to connect to distant relations or friends of the deceased later at the wake or other post-funeral celebration.

4. National Parks or Botanical Gardens

If you love nature and the outdoors, a service in nature may best reflect your personality. Some national parks and gardens  have venues that can be rented out for an event. Perhaps consider having a picnic as part of the event for guests to connect.

5. Sunset Cruise

Consider chartering a boat for a final sunset cruise. This will make an intimate venue for a memorial service and allows for an ash scattering ceremony.

Maybe you would prefer to have a traditional service, but that would also be uniquely you.

With Remember Blue you can capture your wishes for your last event. These wishes can be sent to your loved ones after you pass on helping you make sure that your loved ones know your wishes.
